Power Play Setup
Minervini's most powerful setup, and his rarest. A stock surges 100% or more in eight weeks or less on massive volume — the kind of thrust that only happens when institutions will pay almost any price to get in — and then, instead of handing the move back, pauses in a very shallow and orderly base. The precursor move is the pattern: without a double in under two months this is not a Power Play, whatever else the chart looks like. Expect long stretches with no candidates; that is the setup behaving correctly.
Sample still building: 1 eligible setup in the 2025-03-17–2026-09-04 source-bar window. Rates stay hidden until n=30. Historical and illustrative, not predictive.
How this is measured →Setup Criteria
- › Precursor move: 100%+ advance in 8 weeks or less, on sharply expanded volume
- › Correction depth: no more than 20–25% off the peak
- › Consolidation: roughly 3–6 weeks (some resolve in 10–12 sessions)
- › Volume dries up through the base
- › Confirmed Stage 2 uptrend with RS leadership
- › If the correction is under 10%, the progressive-tightening rule is waived
Buy aggressively on the breakout — full position at the pivot.
Tight — often 3–5% below entry. Power Plays don't need room.
